Companies thriving in High Weald House

Our High Weald House business centre on the Bexhill Enterprise Park is home to a vibrant mix of companies. I caught up with three of them to hear how their business is doing.

NBS Underwriting moved into High Weald House in 2023. Manager Rob Hawkes told me its business in the region, which sells property and household insurance through brokers, has โ€œseen remarkable expansion since thenโ€.

NBS Underwritingโ€™s Bexhill team has grown from six to 10, introduced several new insurance products and is now handling 5,000 insurance quotes and more than ยฃ1.5 million of business a month. To accommodate this rapid growth, the company recently doubled its space within High Weald House by taking an adjacent office.

Rob explained: โ€œThe Hastings and Bexhill area is a great hub for insurance firms, with a pool of skilled local employees. High Weald House has been perfect in supporting our growth by enabling us to expand into additional space. The modern facilities, fantastic countryside views and professional environment make it an impressive place to receive visitors and conduct business.โ€

SpaMedica specialises in NHS cataract surgery, YAG laser capsulotomy and medical retina services, with 61 hospitals UK-wide bringing NHS eye care closer to peopleโ€™s homes. It opened its Bexhill hospital on the ground floor of High Weald House in 2023 to give Sussex residents rapid access to high-quality treatment, and the team tells me itโ€™s thriving and providing care to thousands of local patients.

The company has welcomed several new staff to strengthen its team; it has significantly reduced waiting times for NHS cataract surgery, with patients receiving treatment within just four to eight weeks; and I was pleased to hear that 98% of NHS website reviews award the hospital a full five stars.

The team also keenly supports the community, recently raising ยฃ860 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and donating supplies to Bexhill & Hastings Wildlife Rescue & Sanctuary.

Expert in Mind manages a 70-strong panel of expert psychiatrists and psychologists who provide medico-legal reports for court proceedings in all areas of law.

Director Zofia Ludvig said that on first moving into High Weald House, โ€œthe location and rural setting are so appealing, while itโ€™s vital we portray a highly professional image โ€“ and the offices are just right in reflecting that.โ€

Zofia has now told me the business has grown well since, with the team expanding to 18 โ€“ plus Ludo, the office labrador โ€“ all of who appreciate being able to take breaks by walking in the countryside surrounding the office.

The company has introduced mentoring groups for its expert witnesses and runs a popular webinar series for its clients, with sessions regularly attracting 500 attendees.

It also has big plans for the year ahead. It will open an ADHD clinic within the building this spring to provide prompt assessments and treatment, while the NHS has a five-year waiting list. And it plans to expand to a second office โ€“ in Australia, no less.

Weโ€™re wishing these and all the occupiers in High Weald House the best of success for 2025!
