A bidding war erupted as eight garages in a courtyard setting in the Ewell area of Epsom, Surrey went under Clive Emson Auctioneers’ gavel on Thursday 11 December.
Offered as one lot, the garages were among 167 lots listed across southern England in the latest auction held by Clive Emson.
Garages rear of 41-43 Curtis Road was eventually sold for £160,000 freehold at the firm’s auction. The lot attracted 66 bids from eight different bidders, which drove up the sale price to more than double to lower freehold guide price.
The collection of eight garages in two blocks of four, together with the central courtyard, is situated in an established residential area.
Director and auctioneer John Stockey said: “This one really took off with strong pre-sale interest translating into competitive bidding. It demonstrated yet again the value of bringing garages to market through Clive Emson auctions.
“This is especially true in London commuter areas where parking spaces can be at a premium and good income can be generated by letting out self-contained garages.”
These eight garages – on a site extending to 0.018 hectares (0.04 acres) – are within easy walking distance of Tolworth Station, which is on the Chessington branch line and serves London Waterloo through South Western Railway.
