Housebuilder delivers second workshop with Communigrow charity

Barratt David Wilson Homes has continued its partnership with local food education charity Communigrow, bringing hands-on food growing workshops to its The Poppies residents in Maidstone, Kent.

East Malling-based Communigrow offers multiple programmes designed to connect local people with the natural world. The workshop took place at Communigrowโ€™s โ€˜Show Gardensโ€™ and offered residents from The Poppies a true field-to-fork experience, such as planting, harvesting, cooking and eating fresh produce during an interactive lunch session.

This initiative supports Barratt David Wilson Homesโ€™ ongoing commitment to sustainability, community engagement and healthy living.

By teaming up with Communigrow, a charity dedicated to reconnecting people with food, nature and outdoor learning, the partnership is helping to cultivate both environmental awareness and stronger community ties.

During the workshop, The Poppies residents also had the chance to explore Communigrowโ€™s unique gardens, including a wildlife meadow, pond with a dipping platform and sensory garden.

Natalie Perry, director of sales & marketing at Barratt David Wilson Kent, said: โ€œOur collaboration with Communigrow is about more than supporting a local charity โ€“ it’s about empowering residents with the knowledge to grow their own food, live more sustainably and lead healthier lifestyles.

โ€œBy encouraging homegrown produce and greener living, we are helping to build resilient communities that are not only environmentally conscious but also more connected. We hope that the residents that took part are now able to implement their new skills into their everyday lives.โ€™โ€™

Joshua Piercey, development manager at Communigrow, added: โ€œCommunigrowโ€™s mission is to enable local communities to realise the well-evidenced educational and wellbeing benefits of sustainable horticulture and growing.

โ€œContinuing our relationship with Barratt David Wilson Homes, we hosted a workshop designed to support residents living at The Poppies.

โ€œThis initiative not only helps participants reduce their grocery bills by growing fresh, nutritious food at home but also encourages more sustainable lifestyles and educates on the wider wellbeing benefits of working outside.โ€
