Beach Street Restaurants acquires Whitstable bistro Samphire

Leisure property specialist Fleurets has completed the leasehold sale of award-winning Whitstable restaurant Samphire.

Situated in the heart of the seaside town, Samphire has been sold on behalf of respected restaurateur George Begg, who founded the business 20 years ago, having decided to settle on the Kent coast with his family.

A much-loved and highly successful neighbourhood bistro, Samphire trades from an attractive period former shop building in the High Street.

In a sale that attracted significant interest and multiple offers, the property has been acquired by another respected local pub and restaurant operator, Jim Cleaver of Beach Street Restaurants.

Beach Street started in 2005 as a neighbourhood gem with 81 Beach Street in Deal and has grown into a thriving group of five venues across South East Kent. Samphire will now be the latest addition to its portfolio.

Simon Bland, senior associate at Fleurets, said: โ€œThis sale highlights that the market is very much alive when special opportunities like this come along.

โ€œHaving lived in Whitstable myself, I expected the level of attention the sale attracted, and itโ€™s obviously pleasing to help a business that has been a labour of love begin a new chapter in such good hands.โ€

Jim Cleaver, managing director of Beach Street Restaurants, said: โ€œWeโ€™re delighted to welcome Samphire and its fabulous team into the Beach Street Restaurants family.

โ€œItโ€™s a much-loved Whitstable venue that perfectly complements our collection of high-quality, individual pubs & restaurants along the beautiful Kent Coast.

โ€œSamphire will continue to run just as it always has โ€“ with the same great food, service and atmosphere that guests know and love โ€“ and we canโ€™t wait to build on its success as part of the Whitstable community.โ€

Samphire founder George Begg added: โ€œSamphire has always been more than just a restaurant to me โ€“ itโ€™s been a home, a family and a way of life.

โ€œHospitality was always at the heart of what we strived to do. More than just serving food, it was about creating a sense of warmth, inclusion and good times.

โ€œItโ€™s been a privilege to be a part of the Whitstable community for 20 years and Iโ€™m so grateful to all of our staff, customers and fellow traders for all their support over the years.

โ€œWhilst selling was a hugely emotional decision, I am looking forward to more family time and new ventures. Dee, Holly and the rest of the team will still be there to welcome you and keep the Samphire spirit alive under the capable hands of the new owners.โ€
