Counselling Directory celebrates 20 years

Surrey-based Counselling Directory, the UK-based platform for finding and connecting with verified counsellors or psychotherapists, is celebrating two decades of helping people find mental health support this month.

Founded in 2005 by two sisters who were passionate about making professional support more accessible, the platform has since grown to include more than 27,000 verified professionals.

Recognising the multifaceted nature of wellness, the sisters launched more directories listing hypnotherapists, coaches, nutrition professionals and holistic practitioners.

These platforms now sit under the Happiful brand, which also publishes Happiful Magazine, a print publication launched in 2017 that champions mental health awareness and fights stigma.

Since its inception, Counselling Directory and its sister sites have supported more than 11 million people in accessing professional help, information and resources for mental wellness.

In 2019, Happiful became a proud B Corporation, joining a global movement of companies committed to balancing purpose and profit. This recognition highlights the organisation’s commitment to community impact, environmental responsibility and workplace wellbeing.

To mark this 20-year milestone, staff across the organisation participated in a volunteering morning at Just4Kids in Aldershot, giving back to their local community.

Amy-Jean Burns, Happiful’s CEO, said: “I’m so proud to be part of Counselling Directory as we celebrate 20 years of supporting people to find the help they need. Our wonderful founders’ original vision was to empower individuals to access confidential, trusted support in a safe space – a goal that still drives everything we do today.

“Counselling Directory has played a significant role in the progress that mental health support has made in the UK, and something I hope the whole team feels incredibly proud of.

“When we talk about community, we mean a place that’s inclusive, supportive and open to all, so it feels especially fitting to mark this milestone together by giving back to a well-loved local charity.”
