Pair of Folkestone care homes with unusual history sold

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced the sale of Wells House Nursing Home and Wells Lodge Nursing Home in Folkestone, Kent.

Wells House occupies a large, 21-bedroom mansion with views overlooking Sandgate, near Folkestone. Designed by C F A Voysey, the Grade II-listed property was the former home of the science fiction writer H G Wells, from 1901 to 1909, and has now been converted for care use and is registered with the CQC to provide care for 21 residents.

Wells Lodge is a nursing home registered for up to 22 elderly residents. It occupies a large, well-presented three-storey detached house in the Leas area of Folkestone, which has been substantially extended and is now registered provide to care for 22 residents.

The homes have been owned by Victoria Nursing Group and were brought to market in order for the group to further extend their three care homes in Hove.

Following a confidential sales process with John Harrison at Christie & Co, Wells House has been sold to Wells Haven Ltd and Wells Lodge has been sold to Merryhill Care Ltd, both of whom already have care experience behind them.

John Harrison, director of care at Christie & Co, said: โ€œI am delighted to have completed the sale of both Wells House and Wells Lodge on behalf of Victoria Nursing Group for whom I have previously sold two of their care homes.

โ€œI am sure that both buyers for Wells House and Wells Lodge will continue the strong reputations both homes have using their experience in the care sector. These sales demonstrate the strong demand we are continuing to see for care homes in the South East.โ€
