Kent-based Four Jays, one of the South East’s largest family-owned toilet, welfare and commercial hire companies, responded to a call for help from Kenward Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals affected by addiction and homelessness.
Based at Yalding, Kenward Trust is now the proud owner of a 24-foot Oasis welfare unit to support its outdoor therapeutic workshops offering gardening, as well as art, pottery and woodwork, as part of residents’ recovery programmes.
The Four Jays team selected the donated welfare unit as it would provide a kitchen space, office space and toilet facilities, as well as protection from the elements.
The unit was successfully delivered and installed by one of Four Jays highly skilled crane operatives, led by Chris Rand, head of operations with support from Kenward Trust’s in-house team.
Penny Williams, chief executive of Kenward Trust, said: “This unit is such an important addition to our Therapeutic Gardens and Workshop area, rated ‘excellent’ by the CQC, which is key to our residents’ recovery journeys.
“Over the last year, we have found that more and more of our residents are presenting with the detrimental results of ketamine use, such as weak bladders and bladder erosion. This means they urgently, and frequently, need to use the toilet and therefore lose the confidence to take part in this essential part of their treatment.
“The welfare unit kindly donated by Four Jays will also give our residents the confidence of an office space to talk to staff confidentially when using the office and kitchen facilities.”
Chris Rand added: “The challenge of addiction and homelessness affects too many people in our communities, and when we heard Kenward Trust needed support, we immediately looked at how we could best support the invaluable work of the charity.
“After selecting a suitable unit, and giving it a freshen up and new electrical safety certification, it’s now on site and I’m sure will be put to good use for many years to come.”
