Thackray Williams expands commercial team

London and Kent law firm Thackray Williams is looking to expand its commercial team further after four new hires across its commercial practices and unprecedented growth.

The hires follow 30% year-on-year growth in the first six months of the current financial year for the commercial division as a result of Thackray Williams’ strategy of bolstering its commercial offering.

The employment and corporate/commercial teams delivered a 46% income growth over the same period, compared to the first six months of 2022-23, accelerating a combined 82% increase in revenue in just three years.

Richard Ludlow has joined as a partner in the commercial dispute resolution team, with a specialism for insolvency and restructuring work and defending director disqualifications.

Consultant Andrew Harbourne will support commercial property clients with his expertise in non-contentious construction law – from site acquisition through design and build to onward sale.

Nicki Rundle joins as a senior associate in the commercial property team, covering the Sevenoaks and Kent areas, while Susan Collins becomes an associate solicitor in the commercial property department operating out of Bromley.

Emma Thompson, head of education, employment and corporate & commercial, who also oversees strategic recruitment, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to strengthen our offering for our commercial clients by such strong additions to our team to enable us to build on our growth in this field in the past year.

“But with demand for our commercial expertise continuing to grow, we are on a proactive drive for another experienced commercial lawyer to join our commercial team.”

The financial results and team expansion of the Bromley-headquartered firm has been achieved after moving away from the high street, increasing its emphasis on commercial work and breaking down the barriers between traditional legal silos by focusing on six sectors, offering holistic legal solutions for both private and commercial clients.

Boasting the prestigious LEXCEL Practice Management Standard (a quality mark achieved by only 3% of solicitors in private practice), Thackray Williams is listed in both the Legal 500 and Chambers Guides for 2025.

It has set its sights on becoming a top 200 law firm after posting record revenues of £12.2 million for 2023/4, a rise of 9.1% compared to the previous year. The business is targeting revenues of £15 million by 2026/7 and £20 million by 2030.

Emma concludes: “We’re keen to strengthen our practice further with new lawyers in our corporate and commercial team.

“As an ambitious firm, we’re looking for people who share our drive to join us on our journey. In return, we’ll help them achieve their ambitions while maintaining a positive work-life balance.”
