Berrisons Delicatessen opens in Hove to champion local producers

Berrisons, a new delicatessen in the heart of Hove, East Sussex, officially opened its doors on 1 November at 80 Church Road.

Set to become a beloved destination for food enthusiasts in the community, the delicatessen specialises in high-quality produce sourced from local businesses and companies with a strong sustainability ethos.

Berrisons, the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Craig and Lisa, will offer a variety of sweet and savoury snacks, including cakes and pastries from Real Patisserie, pork pies, hand-crafted vegan and meat sausage rolls from The Sausage Roll Kitchen – not to mention an array of homemade sandwiches.

On top of this, it will stock hot sauces from Spiced Sussex; condiments from The Real Condiment Co; a selection of local cheeses from Alsop & Walker and High Weald Dairy; locally cured meats from Cured Rebels; and other local produce not available in large supermarket chains.

Customers can also enjoy locally roasted coffee from Pelicano Coffee; unique, sustainable products sourced from farmers such as Trenchmore Farm; drinks from Folkington’s; Brown Bag Crips; and organic Raw chocolate from Conscious Chocolate, as well as other food manufacturers across Sussex.

The deli will offer customers the opportunity to sample items before purchasing, to learn about the provenance and flavours, and to discover pairing and cooking suggestions.

Craig and Lisa have long dreamt of opening their own local food business. The couple, who have lived in Brighton for over a decade, bring their own unique skill set to their new venture: Craig’s expertise in procurement and Lisa’s background in marketing.

Lisa said: “After spending the past 10 years developing and launching award-winning food brands into the UK market, I’m thrilled to be on the other side of the table now, helping to build and promote other small independent suppliers and artisan brands through our very own delicatessen.”

Craig added: “Hove already has a tremendous community feel and strong support for buying local produce. We want to build upon that and offer unique food and beverages to our customers that you just do not find in supermarket chains.

“It’s all right on our doorstep so we want to bring all that fine food and drink to the high street for locals and visitors alike.

“We also have a passion for sustainable produce and want to work with suppliers who share those same values.”

Berrisons is committed to providing great customer service and giving back to the local community through various initiatives. The deli will host events such as introductions to the local suppliers, kimchi and kombucha-making workshops, and cheese and wine tastings to showcase local produce and foster a sense of community.
