Kent IT firm celebrates 30 years in business and announces leadership changes

Select Technology, based in Paddock Wood, Kent, has marked its 30th anniversary with a celebration event and the announcement of changes at the top as the company looks to the future.

Select Technology’s founder Nigel Potter will step aside as managing director on 1 November after three decades, with his son ready to take charge for the next chapter of success.

The family-run managed service provider was set up by Nigel in 1994 when floppy discs and dial-up were still all the rage. Technology may have changed beyond recognition, but with a focus on customer experience, Select Technology has become a go-to IT partner for SMEs and multinationals across the South East and the UK, now boasting a 43-strong team.

On 10 October, customers, partners, local businesses and industry friends gathered at Mereworth Winery for an afternoon of wine tasting, food and conversation. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and the story to come, including news of significant changes to Select Technology’s leadership team from next month.

After three decades at the helm, Nigel will step up from managing director to become executive chairman, with his son Nick taking over his current position – and the day-to-day running of the company – supported by technical services director Simon Moore. The official handover will take place on 1 November.

Nigel said: “This celebration was a way to thank our loyal customers, dedicated employees and valued partners for all their support through the years. The IT sector has changed immeasurably since 1994. It’s been quite the journey.

“Technology remains integral to every business in 2024, and it’s a real privilege to support incredible organisations throughout the South East and beyond with their IT needs.

“Amazing customer experience has been central to our mission, and I’m proud of our team, who continue to deliver to the highest standard.

“After 30 years leading Select Technology, the time is now right to hand over the day-to-day running of the business to Nick, who, supported by our technical services director Simon, will begin our next chapter.

“Three decades is a long time in any business, but while the next generation of technology may still be unknown, we are ready for it.”

Nick added: “After 30 years of success, 2024 has been our best year ever, with incredible growth in the number of businesses we support and six new additions to our fantastic team.

“It’s an absolute honour to be taking on this new role, and I look forward to continuing the legacy and evolving the business.

“The growth of AI has the potential to change the face of technology. We are truly entering a new era. No matter who you are, no matter what you do, AI will impact us all.

“For us as a business, we will be here to support our customers as they adopt the next wave of technology-driven change.”
